Between BI-MU and Euromold

BI-MU, the leading Italian exhibition for machine tools, robots and automation, took place in Milano from Oct 5-10.
This year, the show celebrated its 25. anniversary and welcomed over 96,000 visitors. They visited also the booth of SolidCAM´s distributor Soluzionicam, where the new version SolidCAM2007 R11 has been demonstrated (see snapshot)

From Nov 29 to Dec 2, we will present our newly introduced version SolidCAM2007 R11 at the Euromold exhibition in Frankfurt/Germany. In addition to the new High-Speed Machining module for the machining of complex 3D parts, SolidCAM will demonstrate new functions for 2.5D Milling, including a new Thread Milling operation and powerful new functionality for the automatic feature recognition and machining of 2.5D pockets in Prismatic Parts. Also, important enhancements of the automatic feature recognition and machining of holes, including the support for tapping and reaming, will be shown. The User documentation and toolsheet output in R11 is now based on XML-format and is fully customizable.

All SolidCAM functions are seamlessly integrated into the 3D CAD mainstream system SolidWorks. The single-window user interface and the full associativity between the CAD model and NC toolpath guarantee short learning curves and an optimal data flow.

Dear reader, if you have a chance to be in Frankfurt, please visit us at

  • Seamless Integration Between CAD and CAM
  • MOLDMAKING TECHNOLOGY is a well known magazine, where moldmakers can learn how to become more productive. In the recent issue, SolidCAM published an article about the benefits of the integrated SolidWorks+ SolidCAM solution to achieve shorter lead times.

By single window integration between CAD and CAM software, mold designers and NC programmers share the same user environment on the same 3D database. The seamless integration provides shorter learning curves and far greater efficiency in communicationg between geometry and toolpaths. SolidCAM as CAM software supplier can focus its resources 100% on the development of new applications like High-Speed machining.

  • Surcam chooses SolidCAM´s new HSM module
  • Surcam is one of the first companies which inten-sively tested SolidCAM´s new High-Speed-Machining (HSM) module for the manufacturing of complex molds. Surcam was founded 20 years ago as a job shop by Asher Ben-Shabbat. Since 10 years, Surcam is using SolidCAM to machine all kinds of parts.

Today Surcam produces medical equipment, prototype parts and complex molds. Recently Surcam was in need of an easy to use yet powerful HSM module that would machine molds with a perfect smooth finish. They compared other programs with SolidCAM’s new HSM module. The result was widely in favor of SolidCAM with its optimized and smooth toolpath that translates to increased surface quality, less wear on cutters and longer life for machine tools.

  • User Meeting in Turkey
  • SolidCAM´s Turkish reseller UMTAS invited its users to Istanbul to attend the launch of the new versions SolidWorks2007 and SolidCAM2007. Nearly 500 participants listened to the presentations, covering the whole process from design via analysis to High-Speed machining.

Mustafa Erten, Manager of UMTAS´CAD/CAM division, stated: "The 30% increase of the audience shows the interest and the potential of the Turkish market for manufacturing automation software. We are also happy, that SolidWorks and SolidCAM support us in providing the combined CAD/CAM solution to 42 vocational schools in Turkey. Up to now, we trained already 55 teachers and installed about 400 SolidWorks+SolidCAM seats at the first 19 vocational schools. We believe, that this way of High Tech education is the best method to prepare our industry for the future."
