We are proud to present you our new software release SolidCAM2007 R11. With this release, SolidCAM is further expanding its NC functionality to cover especially the needs of the Mold, Tool and Die market. The main highlight of the new version is a High-Speed Machining (HSM) module that generates optimum roughing and finishing CNC toolpaths for the High-Speed Machining of complex 3D shapes.

With demands for ever-shorter lead times and improved quality, High-Speed Machining is becoming more widely adopted in many mold, tool and die shops to machine hard materials with increased feeds. The SolidCAM HSM Module extends the 3D machining capabilities of your existing SolidCAM system. The HSM module provides many unique machining strategies for generating world-class high speed machining programs and is ideally suited for the rapid generation of toolpaths for high-speed milling machines. As a result, the new module will provide increased surface quality, less wear on your cutters and a longer life of the machine tools. The shipment of the new release to SolidCAM customers will start end of September.

Dear reader, we would like to invite you to our next tradeshows, the IMTS show in Chicago and the AMB2006 in Stuttgart, where we will present SolidCAM 2007 R11 the first time to the American and European audience.

·  Success factors for High-Speed Machining

The successful implementation of High-Speed Machining does not only require the right CAM strategies (see new SolidCAM release), but also appropriate other HSM components. Besides the CNC programming software, machine components like milling machine, coolant, clamping, cutter tool and tool holder are equally important. The right combination of all HSM components gives moldmakers a competitive edge in terms of surface quality, production time and costs. In a recent article in "Moldmaking Technology" magazine, Steve Ortner has analyzed "The Keys to Successful High-Speed Machining".

·  Single Window Integration for Moldmakers

How to compress the time of mold production? Remove all interface bottlenecks by using CAD/CAM modules, which operate in the same window and on the same 3D database as the underlying design system! SCP Plastics, a U.S. based injection molder of thermoplastic engineering materials, has thus increased its productivity dramatically.

After having choosen the 3D CAD mainstream system SolidWorks as their design platform, SCP Plastics later complemented it with two "Gold partner" products for mold design (R&B) and manufacturing (SolidCAM). R&B provides a suite of applications, consisting of SplitWorks, MoldWorks and ElectrodeWorks, which automatically create a parting model, assemble the mold base and then extract the electrodes. SolidCAM software then receives the mold model and translates it to CNC machine language - seamlessly integrated in the same window.

·  German suppliers rely on SolidWorks+SolidCAM

Barth GmbH and Gerdt GmbH are contract manufacturers, both located in the "Black Forest" in Southwest Germany. Barth GmbH provides complex protopytes and functional models to its customers, whereas Gerdt GmbH offers all kind of manufacturing services, including turning and 2,5 axis to 5 axis Milling in Steel, Aluminium and Titanium.

Although both companies provide different services, they have common CAD/CAM requirements: A need for wide range of data translators, excellent Design- for-Manufacturing functions, machining capabilities from 2,5 to 5 axis, with special focus on Hermle CNC machines. Answering these functional needs and providing both ease-of-use and short learning curve, the combined SolidWorks+SolidCAM solution was their system of choice.

·  SolidCAM at SolidWorks World User Conference in China

SolidCAM China exhibited at the ”SolidWorks World 2006 China” conference, held on August 22 in Shanghai and on August 24 in Shenzhen. The conference, sponsored also by SolidCAM, had been opened with a keynote speech of John McEleney, CEO of SolidWorks, about “‘Passion stimulate inspiration, Design lead innovation”. Together with its partners Qichen Ltd. and Shark Networking Ltd , SolidCAM China demonstrated the ease-of-use of SolidCAM2006, including the single Window integration in SolidWorks. Participants from the chinese machinery, electronics, consumer and mold industry were impressed by the power of SolidCAM`s machining capabilities.
